PADI Open Water Divers are qualified to:
- Dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters / 40 feet
- Continue their education by upgrading to the Advanced Open Water Diver certification
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
. Dive theory to understand basic principles of scuba diving
. Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
. Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore !
The course takes 3 days – 1 day of theory and shallow water skills training followed by 2 days of training in the open water with 4 training dives.
.Knowledge development
You will be introduced to basic scuba theory by watching a video, reading and answering the questions in your manual. After review sessions with your instructor to ensure you understand the material, there is a multiple-choice final exam, in which you must receive a mark of 75% or higher to pass.
.Skills training in shallow water
Right off the beaches around Ko Lipe and the surrounding islands we have calm, clear, pool-like conditions in which to learn and practice the basic scuba skills you will need to master. Your instructor will explain and slowly demonstrate each and every skill for you and give you enough time to practice. You will also have to demonstrate the ability to swim.
.Open water training dives
During your course you will participate in 4 open water training dives which will last approximately 45 minutes, depending on air consumption. The first 2 dives will take you to a maximum depth of 12 meters / 40 feet and the second 2 dives are limited to 18 meters / 60 feet. The first dive does not include any formal skills and will help you to acclimatize to the new environment. During the 3 remaining dives you will apply the skills you have already mastered in shallow water, combined with a guided tour of the reefs.
